6 Mother’s Day Traditions You Should Start This Year

As moms, we are often so busy caring for the needs of others that we take little time for ourselves. So for Mother’s Day, we should allow ourselves to be celebrated by the family we care so deeply about. And we should take the time to honor the important women in our lives who’ve been like mothers to us. If you are looking for some fun Mother’s Day Traditions to start this year, I hope you will give this post a read, and share it with the other moms in your life!

6 Mother’s Day Traditions to Start This Year

Just like any other holiday, our fondest memories are built by the traditions we celebrate with our loved ones. Why not start some Mother’s Day traditions this year that can continue on, and make your day truly special!

Family Day Outdoors

Mother's Day Traditions

I don’t know about you, but we’ve had a long harsh winter where I live, and it is just now starting to warm up. My perfect Mother’s Day tradition includes time outdoors. Our family enjoys walking to our local ice cream shop near our home. Other fun activities: gather up your favorite foods and have a family picnic. Visit your favorite parks. Go hiking or for a bike ride. Any outdoor activity your family enjoys and allows you to spend quality time together.

Mother’s Day Brunch

Mother's Day Traditions

Another fun Mother’s Day tradition is brunch. Have your family cook up your favorite breakfast foods for a meal fit for a queen. Don’t want a mess in your kitchen? Find local restaurants that serve brunch and attend with your family instead. This is also a great idea for treating the other moms in your life. Take them out for a delicious meal, or serve it in your own home.

Give Mom The Day Off

Mother's Day Traditions

This is personally my favorite Mother’s Day Tradition idea. We all need a break from time to time, so let your family take charge for the day! Sleep in, get served breakfast in bed, do one (or more!) of your favorite activities. And let everyone else handle to chores for the day, and spoil you! I also like the idea of paying this forward. Is there a new mom in your life? Or one with small kids that is feeling overwhelmed? Offer to take care of her kids for a day and let her have some time off. Or clean her house and cook her a meal. How meaningful would that be?

Make a Homemade Gift

The most meaningful gifts we can receive are those that come from the heart. Have your family start a new Mother’s Day tradition this year by making and/or personalizing something special that you will treasure forever. And you can do the same for the mother figures in your own life. If you need Mother’s Day DIY Gift/Craft inspiration, check out my other Mother’s Day posts here:

Get Pampered

Mother's Day Traditions

Other than those that are personalized and homemade, getting pampered is the best gift  you can receive. Make it a Mother’s Day tradition and ask for this every year. Get a massage, facial, manicure and pedicure. Whatever makes you feel relaxed, because you deserve it! Go by yourself, or treat another mom by taking them with you!

A Family BBQ

Mother's Day Tradition

Some of the best times are when all of your family and friends are together. Start a new Mother’s Day tradition by hosting a Family BBQ for your parents, siblings, and other close relatives or friends. You can celebrate all the moms in your life with good food and fun.
